Synchronization of two non-scalar-coupled limit-cycle oscillators

چکیده
Being one of the fundamental phenomena in nonlinear science, synchronization of oscillations has permanently remained an object of intensive research. Development of many asymptotic methods and numerical simulations has allowed an understanding and explanation of various phenomena of self-synchronization. But even in the classical case of coupled van der Pol oscillators a full description of all possible dynamical regimes, their mutual transitions and characteristics is still lacking. We present here a study of the phenomenon of mutual synchronization for two non-scalar-coupled non-identical limit-cycle oscillators and analyze phase, frequency and amplitude characteristics of synchronization regimes. A series of bifurcation diagrams that we obtain exhibit various regions of qualitatively different behavior. Among them we find mono-, biand multistability regions, beating and “oscillation death” ones; also a region, where one of the oscillators dominates the other one is observed. The frequency characteristics that we obtain reveal three qualitatively different types of synchronization: (i) on the mean frequency (the in-phase synchronization), (ii) with a shift from the mean frequency caused by a conservative coupling term (the anti-phase synchronization), and (iii) on the frequency of one of the oscillators (when one oscillator dominates the other). © 2003 Elsevier B.V. Predicting phase synchronization of non–phase-coherent chaos
A new approach is presented for the reconstruction of phase synchronization phenomena from measurement data of two coupled chaotic oscillators. The oscillators are assumed to be non–phase-coherent, making the synchronization analysis extremely difficult. To deal with such non–phase-coherent systems, a CPR index has been recently developed based on the idea of recurrence plot. The present study ...
متن کاملSynchronization of pulse-coupled oscillators to a global pacemaker
Pulse-coupled oscillators (PCOs) are limit cycle oscillators coupled by exchanging pulses at discrete time instants. Their importance in biology and engineering has motivated numerous studies aiming to understand the basic synchronization properties of a network of PCOs. In this work, we study synchronization of PCOs subject to a global pacemaker (or global cue) and local interactions between s...
متن کاملPattern phase diagram for two-dimensional arrays of coupled limit-cycle oscillators.
Arrays of coupled limit-cycle oscillators represent a paradigmatic example for studying synchronization and pattern formation. We find that the full dynamical equations for the phase dynamics of a limit-cycle oscillator array go beyond previously studied Kuramoto-type equations. We analyze the evolution of the phase field in a two-dimensional array and obtain a "phase diagram" for the resulting...
متن کاملBifurcational mechanisms of synchronization of a resonant limit cycle on a two-dimensional torus.
We study synchronization of a resonant limit cycle on a two-dimensional torus with an external harmonic signal. The regime of the resonant limit cycle is realized in a system of two coupled Van der Pol oscillators; we consider the resonances 1:1 and 1:3. We analyze the influence of coupling strength between the oscillators. We show that the resonant limit cycle can be generally synchronized on ...
متن کاملDetecting anomalous phase synchronization from time series.
Modeling approaches are presented for detecting an anomalous route to phase synchronization from time series of two interacting nonlinear oscillators. The anomalous transition is characterized by an enlargement of the mean frequency difference between the oscillators with an initial increase in the coupling strength. Although such a structure is common in a large class of coupled nonisochronous...
